An extra incentive to help a young golf professional’s career will be on the line at The Athena this weekend thanks to Drummond Golf which has signed on as an Official Partner of the event.
On top of the $30,000 prize money, The Athena winner at Peninsula-Kingswood Country Golf Club on Sunday will walk away with a $15,000 scholarship thanks to Drummond Golf as part of its commitment to supporting emerging talent in Australian golf.
The scholarship will provide essential financial support for tournament travel, coaching, equipment and other key expenses associated with being an elite golfer.
The Athena tournament is known for its balance of fierce competition while also being the perfect platform to showcase the personalities of the competing players.
The two-day tournament will see the field of 12 WPGA Tour of Australasia professionals battle it out across the skills-based challenges on the opening day to determine the eight qualifiers for the four-hole match play on Sunday.
Drummond Golf Head of Marketing, Ben Wilson said: “Drummond Golf is incredibly excited to partner with The Athena in 2025, which further demonstrates our commitment to supporting women’s golf in Australia.
“The winner will also walk away with $15k Drummond Golf Sponsorship and we’re looking forward to continuing to work with the 2025 Athena champion for the next 12 months.”
WPGA of Australasia CEO Karen Lunn said the sponsorship would be a great addition to The Athena.
“We’re extremely grateful for Drummond Golf’s investment in the 2025 Athena tournament,” Lunn said.
“Drummond Golf has long been a champion of women’s golf from the grassroots through to the elite level of professional golf in Australia.
“This sponsorship reflects Drummond’s dedication to supporting the next generation of female golfers in Australia and will provide valuable resources to help further the winner’s development and progress in their golfing career.
“We’re looking forward to seeing the talent in action and I know the players and fans are looking forward to a fun week ahead.”
The Athena Tournament will be broadcast live on Foxtel and Kayo from 2pm to 6pm AEDT on Saturday, March 1 and Sunday, March 2 while entry to the event is free.
