• Teasdale among top challengers at Rosebud

Young West Australian Abbie Teasdale is loving life as a professional golfer on the WPGA Tour of Australasia.

Just a week after winning the Drummond Golf Melbourne International in just her second pro start, Teasdale played her way into contention at Webex Players Series Victoria today, shooting a round of 6-under-par 66 to climb to a share of fourth place heading into the weekend at Rosebud Country Club.

At 9-under-par, she is just three shots behind the joint 36-hole leaders, Jake McLeod (Qld) and Corey Lamb (WA), and will be in the spotlight on Fox Sports on Saturday.

From Royal Fremantle Golf Club, Teasdale has been one of WA’s leading amateurs for several years after shooting to prominence by winning the 2018 WA Women’s Amateur Championship aged just 15.

Before turning pro to kick off 2025, she was a prolific winner at state, national and international amateur level, with notable titles including the WA Women’s Amateur, the Concord Cup and the English Women’s Open Strokeplay in 2023, as well as the English Women’s Amateur Championship and Bowra & O’Dea Women’s Classic in 2022.

Her round at Rosebud today included just 31 strokes on her second nine, holes one through nine on the composite course.

She played the same nine in 30 on day one.

Wales’ Lydia Hall (64-67) shares fourth place with Teasdale, with reigning Victoria Open champion Ashley Lau (65-68) and star Victorian amateur Jazy Roberts (67-66) the next highest-placed women at 7-under, five shots back from the lead.

Hall is chasing her fourth win in Australia since the start of 2024 and bounced back with three consecutive birdies from the seventh to ninth today after a double-bogey on the par-4 sixth.

Although she’s got one eye on the three co-sanctioned Ladies European Tour events to come, the reigning World Sand Greens champion would love to add another title this week.

“It’s a big summer coming up for us women's golf wise, three big events,” Hall said.

“This isn't a tune up because it's a proper event.

“It's an event on its own. I really want to do well in all of these events.”

LPGA Tour-bound Cassie Porter birdied three of her last four holes to safely make the weekend play at 3-under following a day two 68.

Thailand's Colcheva Wongras climbed into the top 10 with the low women's round of the day, a 5-under 65, while Victorian amateur Jazy Roberts and former Athena champion Grace Lennon carded 4-under 66s. Roberts shares eighth place, while Lennon climbed to T41.

The father-daughter duo of Peter and Chloe Wilson, at 2-over and 17-over respectively, both missed the halfway cut which came at 2-under-par.
