Queensland teenager Godiva Kim will test her game against the best of the Ladies European Tour after a commanding win at the Women’s NSW Open Regional Qualifier at Bathurst Golf Club on Friday.
The 16-year-old amateur, who plays out of RACV Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast, stormed home in the final round, playing the back nine in 4-under par to finish four strokes clear of Narrabri champion Caitlin Peirce (70), Kathryn Norris (71) and Jess Whitting (72).
Two years ago, Kim was just one stroke off the lead midway through the 2022 Women’s NSW Open at Forster-Tuncurry and can now start planning her trip to Wollongong Golf Club in March for the LET co-sanctioned event.
“I’m really excited for that one. I had high hopes for that one,” said Kim, the NSW Amateur champion earlier this year.
“I’m really proud that I made it in.”
After a 4-under-par round of 68 on day one, Kim found herself 1-over and languishing through 11 holes of her second round.
But four birdies in her final seven holes, including a slam-dunked birdie at the par-3 13th, enabled her to kick clear of the rest of the field with a 3-under 69 and 7-under total for her first professional win.
“Definitely on one of the par 3s, the 13th, I lobbed it in, so I was pretty proud of myself on that one,” she said when asked to name her highlight of Round 2.
“I’m feeling pretty good. I’m feeling pretty proud of myself that I held myself up all day.
“I think even though the score wasn’t the same I played a bit better today, considering I did make up for some mistakes that I made.”
Also qualifying for next year’s Ford Women’s NSW Open was Kathryn Norris from Western Australia, who secured second place on a countback.
The final Regional Qualifier will be held at Duntryleague Golf Club in Orange starting Monday for the final two spots on offer in next year’s championship.
