Cecilia Cho has set her sights on a spot in the Women’s NSW Open later this month after a commanding victory at the Navigate Advisors Wagga Wagga Pro-Am.

Now playing predominantly in Korea where she has five career wins, Cho had to contend with rain delays on both Thursday and Friday but was barely troubled, delivering rounds of 64-66 for a 16-under total and a six-stroke win.

Fresh from The Athena at Peninsula Kingswood last weekend, Elmay Viking (67-69) and Danni Vasquez Boyd (67-69) shared second place at 10-under, one clear of Emma Ash (69-68) and Breanna Gill (69-68).

Third at the Vic Open, Cho’s first win in five years and first on the WPGA Tour was particularly special given she had her father with her on caddying duties.

“My dad just retired from his work so has gone on a vacation and also on my bag,” said Cho, pictured with David Hodge, Director at Navigate Advisors..

“This tournament and this Australian tour has been a family bonding time for me. I’m just very grateful for everything that is happening in Australia.”

HOW THE ROUND UNFOLDED

On the back of her 9-under par round on day one, Cho separated herself even further with a blistering start to Round 2.

She birdied the par-3 second and the par-4 fifth and then moved to 13-under with an eagle at the par-5 sixth for the second straight day.

The 29-year-old made up for a bogey on eight with a birdie on nine but moved out to 5-under on her round with a birdie at the par-5 12th.

A second bogey on the par-3 14th would be Cho’s final slip-up, answering with three straight birdies to close out a six-stroke victory.

WHAT THE WINNER SAID

“It feels amazing. I’ve been in Australia for just over two months now and it is my first win and first win in five years.

“I had all of the nerves on me today and I managed to embrace it and get the work done so I am very proud of myself and very thankful for my caddie.

“I’m trying to qualify for those events and if I am in I am definitely going to play in those events.

“I’m looking forward to the qualifying events and hopefully I get into the NSW Open and the Women’s Classic at Bonville.”
