Englishwoman Amy Taylor has emerged victorious at the Women’s NSW Open Golf Regional Qualifying Event, held amidst challenging weather conditions at the Wagga Wagga Country Club.
The picturesque golf course typically bathed in sunshine, took on a different character as periodic rain and gusty winds swept across the fairways. The adverse weather conditions added an extra layer of difficulty for the competitors, but for Taylor, it became an opportunity to showcase her prowess.
Capitalising on her overnight lead, Taylor delivered a phenomenal performance, shooting an impressive three under par today, ultimately carding a final score of six under par.
“It’s a great feeling, not one you get very often as a golfer to win so it’s a really good feeling and I’m happy with how I played,” she said.
“This is my second professional win, so it means a lot. And to get it here in Australia is really cool.”
Remarkably, Taylor’s journey to the tournament was a last-minute decision, signing up just a week ago in search of a place to practice for the upcoming Australian Open.
“It was very last minute. I think I signed up the day the tournament entries closed. I got the opportunity and I’m very grateful to Golf NSW and the WPGA for giving me that chance.”
“I love to be out here playing, you can learn so much more playing than practicing in my opinion, so it’s been great preparation for next week.”
With her victory, she has secured a spot in next year’s Women’s NSW Open at Magenta Shores in March, prompting an earlier return to Australia than anticipated.
“I’m so happy. It was one of my goals coming out here. I did it and I can’t wait to come back.”

Securing the second spot in the Women’s NSW Open was Elmay Viking from the Cook Islands, who delivered an outstanding round of five under par today, finishing with a final score of four under par. Noteworthy was the eagle she shot on the 16th hole. Following closely in third place, just one shot behind, was New Zealand’s Munchin Keh.
