Australian Hannah Green is finding the beauty in a ‘beast of a course’ as she maintains touch with the leaders at the CPKC Women’s Open in Canada.

Green is one of only six players to have completed two-under par rounds the first two days at Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club, the West Australian following up a 2-under 70 in Round 1 with 1-under 71 on Friday.

That puts her four shots back of leader Meghan Kang (66) as she seeks to add a second win to her previous victory this season at the JM Eagle LA Championship.

Birdies at two of her first three holes put Green at 4-under early in Round 2, a lone bogey at the par-4 ninth the only thing disrupting 14 straight pars.

The 26-year-old hit 13 of 18 greens but needed 30 putts on Friday as she revels in the wrestle of trying to tame the Shaughnessy layout.

“It’s a beast of a course,” was Green’s appraisal of a course that dates back to 1911.

“You pretty much hit every club in your bag, off the tee as well, into the green, so I really like that.

“Today was actually no wind which was kind of unusual and we got some rain which kind of came out of nowhere.”

Since her victory in April, Green has endured a difficult run.

A tie for 13th at the US Women’s Open is her only finish inside the top 50 in her past six starts but she says a change to her putting grip is instilling some much-needed confidence.

“I’ve been struggling more so on the greens this year so actually went back to putting left-hand low, which is what I did last year,” Green added.

“Not too big of a change. Nothing too different. Just gives me a little bit more confidence on the greens which makes everything else in your game a little bit -- you can go for tougher pins perhaps.

“That’s been the difference this week. But I really do enjoy being on this side of the country. Even next week in Portland, I really like that place there. It kind of gives us similar vibes.

“After Portland I go back to Australia so that’s probably why I’m so happy.”

A second round of 2-over 74 saw Gabi Ruffels drop to a tie for 22nd at even par as Karis Davidson (74-72) and Minjee Lee (75-73) both made it through to the weekend.

Tied for 22nd, Hira Naveed is the best-placed Australian after the opening round of the Circling Raven Championship on the Epson Tour while Kristalle Blum continued her strong form on the LET Access Series.

Top 10 in her previous two starts, Blum’s tie for 12th was the pick of the Aussies at the Ahlsell Final At Elisefarm in Sweden.
