Aussie pair Amy Walsh and Kelsey Bennett have recorded their best results of the season with top-10 finishes at the LET Access Series Vasteras Open in Sweden.
The leader by one after an opening round of 4-under 68, Walsh struggled to a 76 on day two but bounced back with a 2-under 70 in the final round and tied for fourth.
The 27-year-old Gold Coaster’s three-round total of 2-under par saw her finish six back of winner Puk Lyng Thomsen from Denmark who stormed to the lead after Round 2 with a round of 6-under 66.
Making just her third start of the season, it is Walsh’s first top-five finish on the LET Access Series and provides a solid grounding for the remainder of the season.
Like Walsh, Bennett had played two events in Europe this season prior to arriving in Sweden.
She used the same golf buggy that Walsh had used to also start strong with a round of 3-under 69 but stumbled to a 75 in Round 2, her closing 1-under 71 enough to elevate the Mollymook native into a tie for sixth and her best result on foreign soil.
The only other Australian in the field, Kristalle Blum, missed the cut with rounds of 79-74.
New Zealand’s Hanee Song led the way for the Australasian girls at the European Ladies Open on the Ladies European Tour.
Three rounds of 2-under 70 earned Song a share of 13th in Finland, Western Australian Kirsten Rudgeley dropping to a share of 56th with a round of 4-over 76 in the final round.
