• Swedish semi-final showdown awaits Team Australia

Team Australia have booked a semi-final showdown with Team Sweden after finishing second in Pool B at the Hanwha LIFEPLUS International Crown in San Francisco.

After playing fourball matches exclusively the first three days, finals day alters to two singles matches and a foursomes match.

The first team to two points between Australia and Sweden will play the winner of the Team USA v Team Thailand semi-final in the final, the two losing teams to meet in the Consolation Match to decide third and fourth place.

Undefeated entering day three, the pairings of Minjee Lee and Stephanie Kyriacou and Hannah Green and Sarah Kemp (pictured) lost both matches to Thailand who completed a 6-0 sweep of all of their round robin matches.

One-up early thanks to a Kyriacou birdie at the par-4 third, the Aussies found themselves 3 down to Patty Tavatanakit and Atthaya Thitikul through 13 holes.

Arguably the breakout player of the tournament thus far, Kyriacou then birdied the 14th and 15th holes to win both and narrow the margin to 1 down with three holes to play.

All four players made par on 16 and then Kyriacou had to make birdie to halve Thitikul at the par-3 17th.

Needing to win the final hole to halve the match, Kyriacou produced her fourth birdie in the final five holes but it was only enough to equal Tavatanakit’s birdie as the Thais won 1 up.

Like their team-mates, Green and Kemp led early in their match against the Jutanugarn sisters, Moriya and Ariya.

Both Aussies birdied the par-3 second and maintained their 1 up advantage through five holes.

The Thais won hole No.6 to tie bring the match back to all square and then moved one hole ahead with birdie at the par-3 ninth.

Holes 10-12 were halved and then Thailand took a commanding 2 up lead with birdie at the par-3 13th.

They went 3 up with a birdie from Moriya Jutanugarn on 15, Moriya closing out a 3&2 win with a matching par at the par-4 16th.

Dominant in all four of their wins across the opening two days, Sweden’s two matches with Team USA both went down to the wire.

Anna Nordqvist and Caroline Hedwall edged the US team of Nelly Korda and Lilia Vu 1 up while Maja Stark and Madelene Sagstrom won the 18th hole to halve their match against Lexi Thompson and Danielle Kang.
