Swede Madelene Sagstrom followed up her opening round 8-under par 65 with another almost flawless display of golf this afternoon, shooting a 5-under par 67 to take a one shot lead into the final 36 holes of the 2020 ISPS Handa Vic Open at 13th Beach Golf Links in Barwon Heads.
Sagstrom is looking to win her second LPGA title of 2020, after breaking through for her first professional victory at the Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Rio in Florida two weeks ago.
Sitting just one shot back is American Ally McDonald, who sits alone in second place at 12-under par. McDonald represented the US at the Solheim Cup at Gleneagles in Scotlland 2019, and that experience will no doubt stand the 27-year-old in good stead as she searches for her first LPGA title.
Of the Australians competing this week, Queensland youngster Robyn Choi shot one of the rounds of the tournament today, an 8-under-par 65 to sit at -10, just three shots back in a 3-way tie for 3rd place.
Australia`s number 1 ranked player Minjee Lee also got herself right back into contention today, firing a superb 6-under par 67 to sit in a tie for sixth place at 9-under par.
NSW`s Sarah Kemp also sits in a prominent position on the leaderboard, last year`s runner up added a 67 today to her opening 71 and sits in a tie for 20th at 7-under par.
The conditions at 13th Beach today were again fairly benign compared to those the players had practiced in earlier in the week, in the women`s field the 36-hole cut came at 3-under par while in the men’s field that number was 5-under par.
Tomorrow’s third round will start at 7:20 am.
