Belgian Manon De Roey overcame a sudden-death playoff to take out the Aoyuan International Moss Vale Pro-am today at Moss Vale Golf Club, defeating Philippine star Dottie Ardina at the second playoff hole.
On the first playoff hole De Roey bravely holed a par putt from 4 metres to match Ardina’s par, and after both players had missed the green in regulation at the difficult 18th hole the second time round De Roey holed out magnificently from a greenside bunker to take the title.
Ardina had held a 2 shot lead going into today`s second and final round and for most of the afternoon it had looked most likely that she would cruise to victory.
Standing on the 17th tee the 26-year-old had held a 3-shot lead, however a disappointing bogey at the par 5 17th hole was followed by a double-bogey to finish after finding the trees with her tee-shot. Ardina was left shattered with her finish, eventually signing for a 1-under par round of 72 to leave her at 6-under par.
Meanwhile De Roey had been climbing her way up the leaderboard during the afternoon following her opening round 71. The Belgian had started the round in an aggressive mood and it showed on her scorecard, the 28-year-old making 6 birdies on route to a 4-under par 69 to also finish at 6-under par.
The leading Australian was Sydney’s Paige Stubbs, who fell just one shy of the playoff after rounds of 70 and 71.
