Aoyuan International Moss Vale Pro-am attracts quality field
A quality field has been assembled for the 2020 Aoyuan International Moss Vale Pro-am, which will get underway tomorrow morning at Moss Vale Golf Club in the NSW Southern Highlands.
Sixty-two professionals from 20 different countries will tee it up for AUD$30,000 in prizemoney over 36 holes on 28th and 29th January, with the event being a part of the 2020 ALPG ClubCar Series and also an official qualifying tournament for both the ISPS Handa Vic Open and the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open.
The professional field for the pro-am includes Austrian star Christine Wolf, who claimed her first professional win at the Hero Women’s Indian Open in 2019 on the way to finishing 3rd on the final Ladies European Tour Order of Merit. Wolf only arrived from the northern hemisphere on Saturday and will be making her first appearance of 2020 tomorrow. Another European star competing is Nuria Iturrios, who won twice on the LET in 2019 on route to finishing 4th on the Order of Merit. The Spaniard recently qualified for the US LPGA Tour in 2020, and is certainly a player to watch over the next two days.
The field will also include the winners of the previous two events on the ALPG Tour. Germany’s Laura Fuensteuck took out the Windaroo Lakes GC Pro-am last Wednesday, while Englishwoman Holly Clyburn showed a welcome return to form in winning the Findex Yamba Pro-am at Yamba Golf Club last Friday. Both are class players on their day who should enjoy the challenges provided by the tricky Moss Vale GC layout.
Of the Australian Players in the field, Stephanie Na and Whitney Hillier will both be looking to get some good form on the board prior to the start of the major tournaments. Both players had solid 2019 seasons and could easily contend here if they bring their “A” games to Moss Vale.
Some Australian rookies to keep an eye on are Victorian Casey Wild, who finished in a tie for 3rd place at the Findex Yamba Pro-am in just her second outing as a pro, and Gold Coaster Rebecca Kay who has recently turned professional after a stellar amateur career which included representing her country on twelve occasions.
