The 2020 ALPG Qualifying tournament will get underway tomorrow at Windaroo Lakes Golf Club south of Brisbane, with a top-class field assembled for the 54 hole event to be played over three days from 19-21 January.

The field for the 2020 Qualifying Tournament will be made up of 74 players from 21 different countries, who will be competing for exemptions into all of the events on the ALPG Tour calendar in 2020.
There will be exemptions available for the leading seven players who are not otherwise exempt into the ISPS Handa Vic Open, three exemptions for those who are not otherwise exempt into the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open, and a minimum of fifteen spots for those who are not otherwise exempt into the Australian Ladies Classic Bonville and the Women’s NSW Open.
In addition, the leading 35 players who are not otherwise exempt will gain exemptions into the ALPG Windaroo Lakes Pro-am, The Findex Yamba Golf Club Pro-am, the Aoyuan International Moss Vale Pro-am and the Ballarat Icons pro-am.

While a high-quality international field will be in action for the second edition of the Qualifying Tournament, there is also some fantastic Australian talent on show at Windaroo Lakes Golf Club, with the impressive Gold Coast duo of Robyn Choi and Becky Kay looking to qualify for the upcoming major tournaments.
While Choi is starting her second season as a professional after a year competing in the US on the LPGA and Symetra tours throughout 2019, Kay has only recently turned professional and is embarking on her first full year in the pay for play ranks. Both players possess an abundance of talent and will no doubt attract some local attention over the course of the tournament.
Another two young Australians to watch this week are West Australian Hira Naveed and Victorian Julienne Soo, both having recently completed their college scholarships in the USA. The talented pair of youngsters will be hoping to kick-start their professional careers by also gaining entry into the major events on the ALPG Tour in February.
Choi, Kay, Soo and Naveed all have status to compete on the US Symetra Tour for 2020, and will gain valuable experience competing in any events they can qualify for prior.

In terms of the international stars in action to keep an eye on this week,  Europe also has a strong hand at the Qualifying Tournament in 2020.
The impressive 24-year-old Spaniard Nuria Iturrios, who already boasts three professional tour wins to her credit after just two years as a professional is looking to start her 2020 season in strong fashion and is one to watch.
German star Laura Fuenfsteuck is another starting out in her third full year on tour, the 25-year-old bagged 12 top-20 finishes on the Ladies European Tour in 2019 to finish ninth on the Order of Merit and is another contender, as are Spain’s Luna Sobron Galmes and Englishwoman Holly Clyburn.

Asia is also well represented this week, with players competing from India, Malaysia, Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Taiwan, The Philippines and Singapore.

Karen Lunn, CEO of ALPG said that the tour was delighted with the field assembled for the Qualifying Tournament;

“We have a great mix of nationalities competing, this year we have probably had more interest from Asian players than we did in 2019 but we also have a strong group of European players as well as players from North and South America. In addition, we also have a super-talented group of Australian players competing and I am very much looking forward to watching them this season as they attempt to match their skills against the world’s best players in 2020”

Lunn also thanked the host club Windaroo Lakes Golf Club for coming on board as tournament hosts in 2020;

“We were so fortunate to have a fantastic venue for our first-ever Qualifying Tournament in 2019 in Ballarat Golf Club, and this year this has been the case also. I would like to sincerely thank Windaroo Lakes Head Professional Jared Love and all his team for their amazing support. Windaroo Lakes is a fantastic golf course and will be a true test for all of the participants. What is as impressive as the course is the club itself which is both innovative and progressive, two crucial factors we take into consideration when we are looking at potential host venues.”

Play will get underway at 11:am Sunday 19th January at Windaroo Lakes Golf Club, Anna Louise Terrace, Windaroo QLD 4207.

Entry is free for all and spectators are most welcome.

Windaroo Lakes Golf Club is just a 30 minutes drive south of Brisbane and 40 minutes north of the Gold Coast.
