Disability Action Week is an annual event to raise awareness in the ways Queenslanders to can play a role in creating an all-inclusive community.

The events throughout the week are aimed at empowering those with a disability, raise awareness of disability issues, and to improve access and inclusion throughout the wider community.

As part of Disability Action Week, ALPG Director of Development, Lee Harrington, teamed up with Afford - Australian Foundation for Disability to offer a Give Golf A Go Clinic at The Golf School, Palm Meadows Driving range and Golf Club from 17-19 September.

“This is the third year we have run golf activities during this selected week and it is great to pair up with Afford this year in what is the start of an ongoing relationship with Afford and golf,” remarked Lee Harrington, Director of Development with ALPG and Golf Coach at The Golf School, Palm Meadows.

“The week provides a great opportunity to offer the opportunity to try golf. We do however offer year round golf programs for all abilities and are continuing to grow our programs. Anyone keen to learn, try or continue we have a program to suit.”

Each day saw a large number of participants, from Special Olympics Logan and Brisbane  areas to school groups from across the Gold Coast. The clinics ranged from time on the range learning basic skills with a qualified PGA professional, to learning feel and control on the practice putting to, to finally heading on course for a bit of fun.

Justine Baker, the district manager at Afford expressed her excitement at being involved in Disability Action Week and sponsoring the golf clinics in particular.

“We are really proud and excited to be apart of this initiative… and promoting sport in the disability sector.

“Here in our Southport hub, we will look at running golf programs for our clients to get some coaching and enjoy a game of golf.”
