West Australian Shani Waugh has been awarded Life Membership of Australian Ladies Professional Golf, after a unanimous decision by its members at the association’s 2019 ALPG Annual General meeting.
Current ALPG President Julia Boland, who took on the ALPG Presidency when Waugh resigned in 2018 praised Waugh for her service to the organisation both as a member, a board member and as President.
Miss Boland said,
“ Shani was a fantastic player and ambassador for ALPG for more than sixteen years having competed on the ALPG Tour, the Ladies European Tour and the LPGA Tour.
Shani joined the ALPG Board in 2007 and served for 11 years in total, 6 of those years as President”
“The ALPG is currently in a very strong position and much of its recent success is a result of Shani’s hard work and dedication. I would like to very sincerely thank Shani for the enormous contribution she has made to the ALPG and congratulate her on this latest honour bestowed upon her by the membership of ALPG.”
The West Australian was clearly delighted at the news she would be honoured in such a way,
“I was very humbled to receive the news from President Julia. It has been extremely rewarding to be a member, board member and President of an organisation that I have always strongly believed in. I have to thank the staff and board members I served with and of course the wonderful members of the ALPG who kept me motivated and passionate for so long.”
ALPG CEO, Karen Lunn, also congratulated Waugh on this honour,
“I am delighted that the ALPG membership have recognised Shani’s enormous contribution to the organisation by honouring her with Life Membership. I have known Shani for a very long time and she is thoroughly deserving of this honour. There have been many times when I witnessed Shani making personal sacrifices to fulfil her role as President of ALPG and she represented the organisation with pride, passion and determination, much like the way she carried herself as a player on the world stage for 16 years. “
