England`s Meghan Maclaren shot a final round 69 to take out the Worrell`s Womens NSW Open title for the second straight year this afternoon at Queanbeyan Golf Club.
Maclaren had started the round in a tie for the lead with swede Lynn Carlsson at -10, and after an up and down afternoon emerged victorious, after making an eagle 3 on the 16th hole and hitting a superb recovery shot from the right rough on the 18th hole within five metres to set up a superb victory, which had looked unlikely when she had fallen two shots behind after New Zealand`s Munchin Keh had herself made an eagle on the 16th hole.
New Zealand`s Munchin Keh finished in a tie for 2nd place with Carlsson, and will maybe feel that this was one that got away after she had led by two shots after making an eagle at the 16th, however a double bogey at the final hole after the Kiwi had driven into the rough ruined her chances of victory.
For Keh and Carlsson, the second place finish was both players best result in a major event on the ALPG and LET tours, and they will certainly be players to watch in the future.
The leading Australian player this week was West Australian Whitney Hillier, who had a great weekend out after just making the cut shooting 67 yesterday and 68 today to finish at -4 in a tie for 10th place.
Sunshine Coast amateur Cassie Porter continued to impress this week taking out the leading amateur trophy as she did last week at the ActewAGL Canberra Classic.
