Proud New South Welshwoman Sarah Kemp will head into tomorrow`s opening round of her home state open, the Worrells Women`s NSW Open, as one of the tournament favourites and will know she has a golden opportunity this week to secure her first major tournament victory in her 15th year on tour.
The 33-year-old, who possesses one of the sweetest golf swings in the women`s game has been in fine form so far on the ALPG Tour this season, starting 2019 with a second place finish at the ISPS Handa Vic Open followed by a top 10 finish at the ISPS Handa Women`s Australian Open.
Kemp`s last two major events have been steady without being spectacular, however a final round 68 at the ActewAGL Canberra Classic last Sunday followed by her 12th ALPG pro-am victory yesterday at the Aoyuan International Moss Vale Pro-am, will mean that she will tee off tomorrow morning at Queanbeyan Golf Club full of confidence as she seeks her first major title.
Kemp`s major rivals this week should come in the form of defending champion Megan Maclaren, Pacific Bay Resort Australian Ladies Classic Bonville champion Marianne Skarpnord, Swedish Solheim Cup star Caroline Hedwall and last week`s runner-up at Royal Canberra, Slovenian Katja Pogacar.
Some other names to watch this week are Englishwoman Felicity Johnson, who has had a solid 2019 ALPG season so far, Welsh star Becky Morgan who broke her own duck at the Hero Indian Women`s Open in 2018 at the age of 40, and Wollongong`s Tahnia Ravnjak, who in her second season as a professional is beginning to find her feet on the big stage.
German rookie Esther Henseleit is another who has the potential to contend this week as does Belgian star Manon De Roey who is in a rich vein of form heading into the tournament this week.
Round 1 will get underway at 7:30am on Thursday morning at Queanbeyan Golf Club, entry is FREE for spectators.
Sarah Kemp will play alongside Skarpnord and defending champion Maclaren at 8:10am, the rest of the pairings for round 1 and round 2 can be found HERE
