• Peiying leads as Durdin charges into contention at ALPG Qualifying Tournament

Overnight leader Tsai Peiying followed up her superb first round 7 under par 65 with a steady 1 under par 71, to take a 2 shot lead into tomorrow`s final round of the ALPG Qualifying Tournament at Ballarat Golf Club.

Lurking just two shots back at 6-under par is South Australian star Tamie Durdin, who is attempting to make a comeback of sorts after a couple of years on the sideline. Durdin followed up her opening 1-under par 71 with a superb 5 under par round of 67, easily the best of the day in the hot and windy afternoon conditions.

The affable Durdin was a regular competitor on the ALPG Tour, the lucrative LPGA of Japan Tour and the US LPGA Tour for almost two decades before stepping away from the professional game in 2016 to focus her attention on growing the game through juniors and female participation.

Durdin has recently completed her PGA Bridging Course which means she is now a fully qualified PGA of Australia Vocational Professional, which was motivated by her passion for the game and to try and get more women and juniors and girls playing.

“When I retired I was really unsure as to what I was going to do and I think it was just a natural progression for me to stay in something that I was very familiar with,” said Durdin, who made her mark on the golfing world with standout performances on the Japan LPGA Tour in the early 2000’s.

A further shot back in third place at 2 under par is American Amelia Lewis, who like Durdin and Peiying is seeking to snatch a place both the ISPS Handa Vic Open and the ISPS Handa Women`s Australian Open.

Another shot adrift in a tie for 4th place at 1 under par are Cook Island native Elmay Viking and Kiwi Liv Cheng, while four players are sitting at even par, Charlotte Thomas, Ines Lescudier, Cheyenne Knight and impressive Kiwi amateur Juliana Hung who is looking to emulate her idol and mentor Lydia Ko.

Eighty players will tee it up in tomorrow`s final round, with players competing for exemptions into the ISPS Handa Vic Open, ISPS HandaWomens Australian Open, The Australian Ladies Classic Bonville, the ActewAGL Canberra Classic and the Women`s NSW Open.

The final round will get underway tomorrow at Ballarat Golf Club at 12:30 pm AEDT, entry is free and spectators are welcome.
