The 10th Anniversary of the NZPWG Women’s Pro-Am in memory of Anita Boon, returns this year with an increased prize purse of $40,000, thanks to long-time sponsors KFC and Coca-Cola.

Held for the first time at Remuera Golf Club, the two-day event on 14 and 15 October is co-sanctioned for the sixth consecutive year by New Zealand Professional Women Golfers (NZPWG) and Australian Ladies Professional Golf (ALPG) Tour.

Featuring a line-up of 32 professional players from New Zealand, Australia, USA and the Cook Islands, the tournament allows amateurs the opportunity to play alongside the up-and-coming stars of the game.

NZPWG chairman Vicki Aitken says the 10th Anniversary will be a special one for all involved.

“The NZPWG Women’s Pro-Am is a much-loved tournament by the professionals and amateurs who come together to play each year. It’s a fitting tribute to Anita, who would be proud to see the many opportunities the tournament creates for young players in her name.”

US player Phillis Meti, who was a co-winner of the 2018 KFC Golf Scholarship, will compete in this year’s tournament, having just come off winning the 2018 World Long Drive Championship in Winstar, US.

Also vying for the trophy is Liv Cheng, ranked second in New Zealand after Lydia Ko and a previous KFC Scholarship winner, who is returning home from playing the Symetra Tour in the US.

New Zealand’s Jenna Hunter, the 2016 winner of the Anita Boon Pro-Am, will return from caddying on the Ladies European to compete for the coveted prize.

Meanwhile Australian’s Karen Pearce, 2013 Pro-Am winner, and Katelyn Must, 2012 winner, return to enjoy the 10th Anniversary celebrations and have a crack at the title once again.

The NZPWG Pro-Am will once again support Look Good Feel Better the charity set up to help women through cancer treatment. The event also fundraises for the KFC Golf Scholarship which helps support NZ professional women golfers to take their careers to the next level.

ALPG Tour CEO Karen Lunn says, “Thanks to the ongoing support of our sponsors KFC New Zealand and Coca-Cola, the NZPWG Pro-Am event is able to raise valuable funds for charity and support New Zealand`s future golfing stars.

“Anita Boon was a wonderful person who touched many hearts; I am sure she would be delighted this event has stood the test of time which is a testament to the hard work the NZPWG have put in to ensure its future.”
