With less than one week to go until our first ALPG event of the 2018 Tour season, we can now confirm the events which will form the 2018 ClubCar Series, a series of ALPG Pro-ams and Tournaments whereby players are awarded points for each event based on their performance.
At the conclusion of the ClubCar series, the leading 5 players will receive a bonus payment courtesy of ClubCar, the winner receiving a cheque for $6500, second place $3500, third place $2500, fourth place $1500 while the fifth-placed player will receive $1000.
Club Car has been a partner of the ALPG since the inception of the ALPG Club Car series in 2006. Winners of the Club Car Series include a who’s who of the ALPG Tour including Katherine Kirk, Shani Waugh, Sarah Kemp, Stacey Peters, Nikki Barrett and most recently in 2017 Hannah Green.
Club Car is the world’s largest manufacturer of small-wheel, zero-emissions electric vehicles, Club Car Series and is recognised as an innovation leader in the industry. Club Car’s Visage Mobile Golf Information system is the latest in a long line of technical advances that improve the golfer’s experience and help courses operate more efficiently.
The 2018 ALPG ClubCar Series will kick off on 28th January with a brand new pro-am on our schedule, the ALPG Ballarat Icons Pro Am which will be played in Victoria’s Goldfields at Ballarat Golf Club, just over an hour west of the city of Melbourne. The prizemoney for the pro-am will be $25,000, with the winner virtually guaranteed a place in the following week’s Oates Vic Open. There is a very strong field entered, with 76 professionals from 17 different countries competing.
The second event on the 2018 ClubCar Series will be the ActewAGL Canberra Classic which will be played at Royal Canberra Golf Club from 9th-11th February. We also have a fantastic field assembled for this event including Australians Minjee Lee, Katherine Kirk and Sarah Jane Smith, along with International stars Cheyenne Woods, Jiyai Shin, Laura Davies, Georgia Hall, Melissa Reid, Caroline Hedwall and Catriona Matthew. The event will be co-sanctioned by the Ladies European Tour and will no doubt be one of the most hotly contested tournaments on the ALPG Tour in 2018, as our members battle a very strong field to earn ClubCar Series points
The third event on the ClubCar Series will be the Women’s NSW Open held at Coffs Harbour Golf Club on the NSW mid-north coast from 1st-4th March where prizemoney of $150,000 will be on offer. This event will be one of two new events on our schedule in 2018, the Australian Ladies Classic Bonville will be played the week prior at Bonville Golf Resort, just 10 minutes south of Coffs Harbour. Both events will also be co-sanctioned events with the Ladies European Tour, which will guarantees a strong foreign contingent of players across both venues.
From Coffs Harbour the ALPG Tour will head up the coast just an hour’s drive to Yamba for the BWAC Employment Services pro-am at Yamba G&CC. This will be the fifth edition of the pro-am and without doubt it is one of the most popular venues for our members and visitors with its pristine beaches and holiday atmosphere. The pro-am will be played on the 6th March for a purse of $20,000.
The tour then heads up the M1 into Queensland to McLeod Country Golf Club for the 2018 Seasons Aged Care Brisbane Invitational, which will be played over two days on the 8th and 9th March. Day two will be the professional individual event played for a purse of $30,000, our good friends at McLeod Country Golf Club hope that the pro-am will prove to be a stepping stone to bring a major women’s professional tournament to Brisbane sometime in the future.
The final event of the 2018 ClubCar Series will be recently announced Qantas Golf Club Gold Coast Challenge, a unique pro-am event where professionals from the ALPG and PGA will play together for 2 days with their amateur partners, with each of the women’s and the men’s fields playing for a purse of $30,000. This event will be played at Links Hope Island on Queensland’s magnificent Gold Coast, and will provide a fitting backdrop for the final official event of the 2017/18 Tour and 2018 ClubCar Series.
A huge thanks must go to Kevin Gates and ClubCar for their continued support of the ALPG ClubCar Series and the game of golf in Australia.
