Breanna Gill made the long trip from Perth a very worthwhile one by claiming her first professional victory today, taking out the Mercedes-Benz Cairns Classic at Paradise Palms Golf Club.
The Western Australian resident shot a second round two-over par round of 73 to go alongside her superb opening round 69, and her even par two round total of 142 was ultimately good enough for a 5 shot victory over Byron Bay`s Jessica Cowie.
A further shot back in third place was the pre-tournament favourite, three-time ALPG winner Kiwi Cathryn Bristow, while promising Gold Coast youngster Amy Walsh finished alone in fourth place.
Gill was over the moon to finally land her first professional title, her previous best finish was a heart-breaking playoff loss to Frenchwoman Marion Ricordeau at the Renault ALPG Pro-am at Castle Hill Golf Club in Sydney in 2015.
\"This is an amazing feeling to finally land my first professional title, especially as I fcame all the way from WA to play here. To win the ALPG section of the Cairns Classic in an event such as this where the PGA and Legends Tour all play together makes it all the more special.\"
Gill also commented that she was grateful to have had the experience of playing in the Bunbury Open in Western Australia recently, also alongside the PGA professionals,
\"I probably would not have won here if I had not had the opportunity to play in Bunbury alongside the PGA guys a couple of weeks ago. These events whereby the PGA and ALPG professionals get play alongside each other are great for us, the sponsors and also the golf community in general. Industry collaboration is a huge key in business and these events can only benefit all of us\"
The NSW born professional also took the time out to thank her main sponsors Volvik and Champions Sports for their unwavering support.
