Ellen Davies-Graham has overcome one of the most disappointing weeks of her career to take out the Brisbane Invitational at McLeod Country Golf Club today.

Davies-Graham, from Queensland’s Sunshine Coast carded an impressive 6 under par round of 68 in the benign morning conditions to win by three shots from the quartet of Emily McLennan, Jessica Cowie, Whitney Hillier and Norwegian star Tonje Daffinrud, who all finished tied for second place after shooting 3 under par rounds of 71.

The 24-year-old, who turned professional in 2014 spent the best part of 2016 playing in the USA on the Symetra Tour, and was clearly delighted with the victory which was the first of her ALPG career.

Davies-Graham made the journey from Adelaide to McLeod on Monday ruing missed opportunities at last week’s ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open, where she missed the cut by 3 strokes having taken 37 and 36 putts the first two rounds, and paid tribute to her Dad Michael for a tip he gave her over the weekend.

“I hit the ball so well last week and it was so disappointing to miss the cut at an Australian Open having played like that. My Dad who was watching me from outside the ropes saw that the ball was not coming off the putter face well and suggested that I add some loft to my putter to see if that would make a difference. I made the change and added two degrees of loft to my putter, today I played pretty much the same from tee to green as I did last week but had just 25 putts which is a huge difference. I was just really solid out there and didn’t make any mistakes today”

Davies-Graham paid tribute to her parents and fiance Josh for their unwavering support.
