• Davies begins 2017 campaign at Links Hope Island Pro-am

Former world number one and winner of 84 professional tournaments, Dame Laura Davies will begin her 2017 season when she competes in the inaugural Links Hope Island ALPG Pro-am at the magnificent Links Hope Island tomorrow.

Davies will join 69 other ALPG professionals from 18 different countries in the 18-hole pro-am which carries prizemoney of $25,000.

The event is the fourth of the 2017 ALPG Club Car Series, which is currently led by ALPG rookie and former leading amateur Hannah Green, who won the Goldkey Financial Pro-am last week and also finished third at the Oatlands Classic.

Other players expected to contend are Aussie stars Sarah Kemp, Rebecca Artis, Whitney Hillier, Sarah Oh, Nikki Garrett, Stacey Peters (nee Keating) and Green.

Of the international visitors England’s Felicity Johnson, who has plied her trade in recent years on the US LPGA Tour, is another leading contender along with the Oatlands Classic winner Gemma Dryburgh who is coming off an impressive rookie season on the Ladies European Tour.

The field also boasts three players who competed in the Rio Olympic Games in 2016; Austria’s Christine Wolf, Belgian Chloe Leurquin, and Swiss player Fabienne In-Albon.

With the winners of the first three Club Car Series events in 2017 all claiming their maiden professional victory, another first-time winner is certainly on the cards with a great pool of Australian and International talent on display at Hope Island, all keen to follow in the footsteps of McLennan, Green and Dryburgh.

Tomorrow’s event will be a shotgun start at 12:45pm at Links Hope Island, entry is free for spectators
