• Aussie backs against the wall at UL International Crown

The Australian team will need to pull off an amazing escape tomorrow morning if they are to advance to the Sunday singles at the 2016 UL International Crown.

When play was cancelled for the day at 6:15pm local time due to lightning and thunderstorms in the area, there were only two matches left on the golf course.
When play was called, Team Korea’s Amy Yang and In Gee Chun were 1up through 15 holes in their match against  Minjee Lee and Su Oh, and Amy Yang and In Gee Chun were 2up through 14 holes against Karrie Webb and Rebecca Artis.

The Aussies started day three knowing that it would need to produce a huge upset against the number 1 seeds from the Republic of Korea to advance beyond Saturday.
With all of the other matches having been completed before the storm struck, at least the Australians now know exactly what is required of them to avoid being knocked out of the competition. If they can somehow win both of the matches to be completed they will advance to the final round, to have any chance at all to make the playoff for the final position they somehow need to grind out one win and one half.

In the opening match Lee and Oh were up involved in a tight contest and hung in there well against the 7th and 9th ranked players in the Rolex Women`s World Rankings. Being just one down with three holes remaining they are not without a chance of pulling off an upset.

In the second match Webb and Artis were always going to have their work cut out against the number 5 ranked player in the world, Sei Young Kim, and So Yeon Ryu ranked 12. In a birdie-fest the aussie pair looked in trouble when they made the turn 3 down, but fought back with birdies at 10 and 11 to get back to 1 down, before the Koreans bounced back with Kim holing a long birdie putt on the 12th to win the hole and another on the 13th to halve the hole after Webb had knocked her iron shot tight.
The duo will need a huge effort to turn this match around against world-class opponents, but have little to lose tomorrow morning when play resumes at 7:00am
