• Minjee Lee shoots 66 to take 2nd round lead in Hawaii

ALPG star Minjee Lee fired a bogey free second round 66 and will take a two-shot lead into the final two rounds at the LOTTE Championship Presented by HERSHEY in Hawaii.

The 19year old Western Australian said that she had adopted a simplistic approach to the week at Ko Olina. “I’ve just been having fun and hitting my shots one shot at time,”

Lee jumped out of the blocks quickly with a birdie on the first hole before running off six consecutive pars in the tough conditions. The talented youngster then birdied the 8th and 9th holes to get into the lead and followed that up with three further birdies from the 11th to get to 10 under par. Five solid pars coming in had Lee signing for a blemish free 6 under par round of 66 to hold the 36-hole lead for just the second time in her young career.

“I holed a couple of nice putts and, yeah, just got my momentum going on the front nine,” Lee explained. “I birdied 8 and 9, so I think the momentum carried on through the back nine.”

Lee is known as one of the most consistent ball strikers on the LPGA Tour and that has been the key to her solid play this week thus far, hitting  an impressive 32 of 36 greens including all 18 in Thursday’s second round in the trying conditions

“I’ve been striking it pretty good yesterday and today as well,” Lee admitted. “It really does help in this wind.”

The 2015 Kingsmill Championship winner noticed that she was in the lead late in her round but didn’t let that change her approach. “I was like, oh, okay, and then I just carried on.”

American Katie Burnett sits two shots back at 8-under after a second day 66, while sponsor invite Su-Yeon Jang from Korea will round out Friday’s final group at 7-under in just her second LPGA start

73 players made the cut of 2-over 146, including all of the ALPG five strong contingent. Su OH will start Friday’s third round at even par in a tie for 33rd place, Sarah Kemp and Sarah Jane Smith are at +1 in a tie for 49th place while Katherine Kirk is at +2 tied for 63rd place

Round 3 will be shown live on FoxSports3 from 9am AEDT tomorrow morning.
