Webb begins 2016 season at Oates Victorian Open

ALPG legend Karrie Webb will start favourite when she tees it up tomorrow morning at the magnificent 13th Beach Resort at Barwon Heads in the 1st round of the 2016 Oates Victorian Open.

This will be the first time that the 41year old Queenslander will tee it up in a state open event since the 1992 Victorian Open, when the then 17 year old amateur from Ayr firmly stamped her footprint  on the golfing world finishing second to Wendy Doolan at Yarra Yarra Golf Club.

Webb has been a great supporter of the ALPG Tour and Golf in Australia, competing in both the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open and the RACV Ladies Masters on a regular basis throughout her illustrious career. This week will provide her legion of Victorian fans a unique opportunity to watch her on their home turf playing alongside the players from both the ALPG and PGA Tours.

Webb will tee off tomorrow at 7:40 am on the Creek Course at 13th Beach alongside Victorians Su Oh and Stacey Keating, two players whom she has mentored as a part of the Karrie Webb Series which is an initiative that she is extremely proud of. ”Ten years ago I wouldn’t have believed that I could have had such a positive influence on the careers of the girls who have been a part of the series. It has been great to follow their progress closely and I have become good friends with most of them. All of the Karrie Webb Series winners are here playing this week so it is great for me to be here with them as a part of this event.”

For Keating, the 2013 Oates Victorian Open Champion and Oh, the runner up here last year, the opportunity to play alongside their idol on home turf surely must go down as one of the highlights of their short careers.  
ALPG Executive Director Karen Lunn said that Webb’s presence this week has had heads turning “Karrie has such a presence about her and you can see this week everywhere she goes people are watching her, both the girls and the guys. It is fantastic that Karrie is playing this week and her participation can only have  a positive impact on an event which continues to go from strength to strength each year. “

For Webb , this is her first visit to the Bellarine and she was extremely complimentary of both the 13th Beach Resort and Barwon Heads itself. “This is the first time I have been down to this part of Victoria and I really love it here. I have really enjoyed playing both of the courses even though they are quite different. Tomorrow I will be playing the front nine of the Creek course blind which hopefully will work out ok as it will be my back nine so I should be warmed up by then”

Play will get underway at 7:00am tomorrow on both the Creek and Beach courses at 13th Beach Resort, Barwon Heads.
