Karrie Webb will be looking to right the wrong on the 72^nd hole this week in the final major of the year at the Evian Championship in France.

Last year Webb took at one shot lead into the final hole, before an unfortunate lie just off the fringe of the green saw her give her closest rival and fellow playing partner an opening to force a playoff or win outright.  As it turned out the South Korean Hyo Joo Kim sunk a 12 foot birdie putt and put the pressure right back on Webb to hole her 10 foot par putt to force a playoff.  Her par putt just slipped by and it wasn’t to be for the Queenslander who won the Evian Masters, before it became a major two year ago, back in 2006. 

There are another five Australians teeing it up at the Evian Resort in Evian-les-Bains on the shores of Lake Geneva.  Fellow LPGA based players Minjee Lee, Sarah Jane Smith and Sarah Kemp are in, whilst Su Oh and Rebecca Artis won events on the LET this year to secure their spots.

While Webb has bitter/sweet memories from 2014, they are all good memories for Lee.  It was 12 months ago she teed it up for the first time as a professional and performed admirably posting a top 20 finished.  Lee has had stellar rookie year, she captured her first LPGA title, the Kingsmill Championship in May and has posted another top 10 finished.   The WA golf star currently sits 17^th on the Money List with US$616,000.

Lee is happy to be back, “Returning a year after to play the Evian Championship feels great! I feel like I`ve matured over the year and it always feels great to be playing in a major championship. I’m really looking forward to the week ahead!” 

“I love the views they are beautiful around the course.” 

On her goals this week, “To be in contention come the last 9 holes of the tournament!”

When asked how she would sum up her first 12 months as a pro, she responded “I`d say my first year as pro has been pretty successful and I’ve had a great learning experience! I’ve been to some really great spots on tour and mostly learning what I need to improve on in my game! 

While Lee is looking to be in the mix come Sunday, Kim is back to defend her title on the par 71, 6453 yard layout.  She has been impressive this year and is currently ranked No.5 on the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings.   Apart from Webb and Lee, Kim will be looking out for the likes of South Korean Inbee Park, New Zealand’s Lydia Ko and American Stacy Lewis.    

The 120 strong field will be playing for the major title along with their share of the $US3.25 million purse.
