Alexandra Orchard today became the first female to win the prestigious Pampling Plate which is awarded to the Queensland Trainee Match Play champion.

23-year-old Orchard went head-to-head with home course favourite Rick Coleman in the 36 hole match play final.

It was a thrilling battle that went down to the wire, with the match decided on the very last hole. A par was enough to see Orchard claim the win.

\"I`m excited and honoured to come away with the win and also to make history,\" said Orchard who was very flattering of her opponent.

\"To be in the company of such a great player in the final of such a prestigious event made for some really strong competition.\"

For Caboolture Golf Club and third year PGA Trainee Rick Coleman it was a bitter sweet day, last year he finished third in the tournament held at his home club, this year he desperately wanted to win in his final tilt at the title.  

\"The Pampling Plate has become such a big event at the golf club and I was keen do well with so much support from all the members here,\" said Coleman.

\"It`s been a great opportunity to work in a club that has such great support from Rod Pampling and his family who are so passionate about this event.\"

Speaking from the US ahead of teeing off on the Web.com Tour, Rod Pampling expressed his pride in all the Trainees competing in the tournament he lends his support and name to. 

\"Congratulations to Ali on a tremendous tournament and win! I am so proud of all the Trainees, particularly seeing women and men competing head to head in such strong competition,\" said Pampling. 

\"I`m looking forward to seeing Ali Orchard and Rick Coleman`s names on a lot more leaderboards!\"

The Queensland Trainees will now turn their attention back to their education and work, setting their sights to continue pursuing their careers in the golf industry.
