Karrie Webb is right in contention at the second major of the year, the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.

Webb fired a second round of two-under-par 71 at Westchester Country Club in New York to be at seven-under-par and just one shot of the lead held by South Korean Sei Young Kim.  

The seven-time major champion didn’t have a great sleep, she put it down to still having the adrenalin from her round one running through her body.  “My start wasn’t as smooth today as yesterday, I made some good pars and a great birdie on the 8^th and actually kept my momentum going on the 9^th when I spun it off the green and got up and down.”

Webb went out in one under par, 35, before another birdie the reachable par 5 12th saw her get to seven-under-par.  The only blemish on her card came at the long par 3 16^th, where she took bogey.   However the Queenslander finished in style with a great approach into 5 feet to the par 5, after which she rolled in for birdie.

The 41 time winner on the LPGA is very pleased with where she is at, “I feel really comfortable where I have put myself.  I’m just really happy to have played the course really solidly for two days and we will see what happens on the week-end.”

The outright leader, Kim has posted rounds of 68 and 70 to be at eight-under-par.  Sharing second place is the defending champion, Inbee Park (68).  Norway’s Suzann Pettersen (66) and Canadian Brooke Henderson (73) are tied for fourth, while American Stacy Lewis (71) and first round leader, Jenny Shin (75) are a further shot back.

Minjee Lee was the only other Australian to make the cut in the $US3.5m purse.  Lee share 47^th position at even par after rounds of 72 and 64.

The cut was made at one-over-par and 73 players will contest the week-end.  Katherine Kirk finished at three-over, while Sarah Kemp (+8) and Sarah Jane Smith (+10) finished well back.  Other notable players to miss the cut were Rolex World No.1 Lydia Ko and American Jessica Korda.
