• Klatten Ready to Defend her NSW Open Title

France’s Joanna Klatten is looking forward to defending her Bing Lee / Fujitsu Women’s NSW Open title this week.

The Open is being played for the ninth year at its “home”, the Oatlands Golf Club in north west Sydney from the 6 to 8 March.  Normally the first tournament in the ALPG major tournament season, this year it is the last event of five in a row.

In 2014 the Frenchwoman came from behind, firing a dazzling course record nine-under-par 63 closing round to win the NSW Open by three strokes over Nikki Campbell.  Klatten, who turned 30 earlier this week, finished at 16-under-par, made nine birdies in a flawless display around the Oatlands golf course to triumph from Canberra`s Nikki Campbell.

“I`m definitely looking forward to defending my Bing Lee / Fujitsu NSW Open title, as it was such a memorable win.”

“I remember playing some great golf and feeling like every shot looked easy that day. I also had a lovely lady (Judy) on the bag which helped me enjoy that day even more. I also remember not even knowing how many under I was when I sank the last putt.”

“I love this event because it`s such a beautiful and fun course to play where you can be aggressive. There are also great crowds on the last day.”

Klatten will face tough competition from the strong field of 107 players assembled this week.  20 countries are represented this week, with no less than nine Ladies European Tour winners in the field as well as multiple LPGA winner Rachel Hetherington.

From an Australian perspective, Hetherington, Sarah Kemp, Rebecca Artis, Bre Elliott and current Club Car Series bonus pool leader Nikki Garrett will be players to watch.

England’s duo of Holly Clyburn and Felicity Johnson and another French player, Valentine Derrey will be ones to look out for from an international perspective.

There are also 29 amateurs in the field this week, testing their game against some of Australia’s and Europe’s best players.

The tournament is renowned for amazing finishes and no doubt in 2015 will be the same.
