• Artis hopes to continue good form in Morocco

Rebecca Artis tees off this evening Australian time at the Lalla Meryem Cup in Agadir, Morocco, hoping to continue her solid early season form into the €450,000 (A$630,000) event .

Artis is joined in the field by fellow Australians Stacey Keating, Bree Arthur, Whitney Hillier, and Stephanie Na who have all had some success early in the ALPG season.

The defending champion and European number 1 from 2014, Englands’s Charley Hull is the tournament favourite and should be the player to beat this week. Hull was in contention at all of the events she played on the ALPG Tour in 2015 and has great memories of her maiden professional win here in 2014.

The 19-year-old is looking for more success at Golf de l’Ocean in Agadir, where she won a play-off against Gwladys Nocera 12 months ago and also finished second to young Thai star Ariya Jutanugarn the previous year.

Hull said: “Last year I played great and it brings back a lot of great memories for me, especially because the year before I came second, so I think two good finishes in the last two years leads to me having quite high expectations this year.

“I’ve had four top 10s so far out of four tournaments, so I’m pretty happy with that, especially because I’ve changed my swing and changed my coach, so I’ve been working on a lot of stuff and I’m happy with that.”

Hull, who finished second at the RACV Ladies Masters in Australia in February, has been working on all aspects of her game with new coach Matt Belsham, who also coaches Ollie Fisher and Ryder Cup hero Jamie Donaldson and spent a windy Wednesday morning on the driving range, rather than taking her new swing onto the golf course.

She continued: “I’ve changed my swing because I wasn’t hitting it quite how I wanted to at the end of the year. In Dubai, I was quite happy with how I got round the golf course not hitting it 100 per cent so I thought it was time for a change and I’m happy with the way I’m hitting it now.”

As well as this week’s prize, Hull is already thinking ahead to the ANA Inspiration at Rancho Mirage in California, which is the year’s first major championship which will be held next week.
