A little look at the leaderboard at the start of her round was all that the talented Su Oh needed to inspire her to fire a superb eight-under-par 65 and catapult herself into a share of the lead at the halfway point of the Oates Victorian Open.

Oh, playing in her first four-day event as a professional, carded nine birdies and one bogey in stunning round of golf on the Beach Course at 13^th Beach Golf Links.  Her 65 was a tournament course record.

The 18-year-old shares the lead with first round leader Scotland’s Sally Watson and Norway’s Marianne Skarpnord.

It was an unusual day weather wise at 13^th Beach Links, on Thursday the wind whipped up mid morning and stayed up all day making the conditions tough, however today it was a perfect day, there was little wind to speak of and it was reflected in the scoring.

After her round, Oh explained what she was thinking before she teed off,  “I just saw I was eight behind at the start and said Su, come on, you need to lift’.  I thought I should catch up a little bit to the leader … and I’m really glad I did it.”

She mentioned how she is a scoreboard watcher, “I like checking scores – tell myself to go low.”

“There wasn’t much difference to yesterday, but I was a little more focused and hit better putts and scored much better.”

For Watson, she was out early and followed up her opening round of 69 with another 69, but this time on the Beach Course.   The LET player said after her round that things could still get better, which means we could have a real shot out over the weekend.   

“I was pretty happy with how I played overall, I definitely could have done a few things better, so I will work on them this afternoon.” said Watson.

The third player at the top is Norway’s Skarpnord, she posted a 68 definitely thinks she can win this week when asked about heading into the weekend in a share of the lead, “Absolutely!, if I play like I did today, I have a very big chance of winning I reckon.”

Lurking just one back of the leaders is current Australian Amateur champion, Shelly Shin (67), while two English players, Holly Clyburn (68) and Sophie Walker (67) share fifth.

Comeback queen Rachel Hetherington posted a solid three-under-par 69 to share ninth position heading into the week-end, while Dame Laura Davies hit back with a 67 to get herself into the red at one-under par and tied for 18^th.

The cut was made at seven-over and 72 players will tee it up on the Beach Course over the week-end.
