• Old Friends Reunite on the Course - Karrie and Rachel

Australian fans were treated today at the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open when Karrie Webb and Rachel Hetherington played together in the third round.

It was the first time the pair had played a competitive round of golf together since Rachel retired from the LPGA back in 2010.

They were out early, 7.55am, as they made it on the cut.  It was an enjoyable day for the crowd that built throughout their round to watch two of our greatest female golfers in action.  They both signed for two-under-par rounds of 71 will move up at least 30 spots.

Webb was asked afterwards what was it like to play with her good friend again,

“It was fun. We we’re joking on the range, because there wasn’t many people there at seven o’clock this morning, that it was ladies Saturday social. We had a good time.”

Hetherington responded when she was asked what it was like to play with Webb,

“It was great. Actually, there are not a lot of players that I know and am familiar with this week so it was great to be out with Karrie. We’ve been trying to catch up for a while so we haven’t been able to do that for dinner this week so I guess we did it on the golf course.”

Webb was quick to chine in with “and hopefully tomorrow. We shot the same scores.”

They both enjoyed the 4 hour round instead of their 6 hour plus rounds of Friday,

“It was great to be out early. The greens are great, the course is in great shape and we got out just before some of the wind so good to get off to a good start.” Hetherington said.

Webb spoke about how she had to keep up with Rachel after she got off to a birdie, birdie start “I had to keep up with Rach, she started off on fire. No, I just didn’t make as many mistakes, didn’t have the putter in my hand as many times as I did yesterday.”

Webb eagled the 14th and joked  “Yeah, I actually looked like a golfer on that hole.”

Hetherington was looking forward to the afternoon, “I just want to go and rest my feet. It’s been three days now in a row and I’ve got one more to go. No, I’m actually just going to get home, have a nice afternoon, I have my daughter at home, so have a nice afternoon, early to bed and get out and play well and play solid tomorrow.”

Webb is also entertaining her family, “Well I’m taking my nieces to Luna Park this afternoon and then hopefully a solid day tomorrow. I think today’s the first time I’ve shot under par around Royal Melbourne so it’s a step in the right direction.”

Lets hope they are paired again tomorrow.
