Garrett, signed for a three under par 69 in perfect warm and sunny conditions at Orient Golf Club on Friday morning to be right behind first round leader, South African, Connie Chen.
The NSW player, who had five birdies and two bogeys, said that putting well on the fast and undulating greens was the key to her low scoring.
“It was an early start which was good and it wasn’t the prettiest three under but I putted well and had 25 putts, so I only hit 10 greens and it was a different 69.
“There are a few holes out there where if you hit the ball in the wrong place then it’s really difficult but if you’re in the right position it’s not too bad.”
Garrett shares second place with England’s Elizabeth Young, Finland’s Noora Tamminen and American Beth Allen.
NSW Rebecca Artis and SA’s Stephanie Na are the next best placed Australians, they share 12th position at one-under-par. Sarah Kemp is at even par and tied for 23rd, while Whitney Hillier is two shots further back and tied for 46th. Nikki Campbell didn’t have the start she wanted, she carded a three over par 75 which has her back in 57th place.
The projected cut is currently three-over-par. Victorian Stacey Keating is sitting at four-over, while Alison Whitaker is a further shot back and tied for 83rd position. Bree Arthur also has some work to do, she is currently tied for 90th place at six-over-par. Unfortunately Ashley Ona retired.
