• Wright in contention in Bahamas

Australian Lindsey Wright went on a birdie blitz in the second round of the rain effected Pure Silk- Bahamas LPGA Classic to soar up the leaderboard and into outright second.

Wright, who won the 2012 ISPS Handa New Zealand Women’s Open will be looking for her first LPGA title come Sunday local time.

The talented golfer from Albury, posted seven birdies in her round of 38 on the makeshift Ocean Club course to sit at eight-under-par total and is just one behind Colombia’s Paola Moreno.

Wright has been a little frustrated with her game of late, she has been hitting the ball really well but her putting had been “horrendous”, but she has tried to be patient and it paid off today.

“I played flawless golf, I didn’t make any mistakes and made a ton of putts. I hit a lot of shots close, made two birdies outside 15 feet, the rest were inside.”

“I hit the ball really solid, I love it out there.” Wright said.
She finished her round with a birdie on the par-4 eighth along the ocean when her ball struck the flag stick.

\"I thought for a moment it had gone into the bunker, but it came straight down,\" she said of the tap-in birdie to close her day.

Severe flooding earlier in the week left so much of the golf course under water that the LPGA Tour`s only chance to finish the inaugural event was to use 12 holes over three rounds to reach the 36 holes necessary to make it official.

\"I didn`t know what was going on,\" Wright said. \"I just play. That`s probably how we should do it all the time.\"
Paraguay’s Julieta Granada and South Korean Eun-Hee Ji share third place at seven-under-par, while another seven players are at six-under-par and right in the mix.

Queensland’s Katherine Hull-Kirk is the next best placed Australian, she is at three-under and tied for 36th. Victorian Bre Elliott is a further shot back and tied for 44th. NSW’s Frances Bondad (-1) shares 61st position, while Julia Boland (E) is tied for 75th.

If they can get to the LPGA minimum 36 holes to make it an official event the top 70 and ties will receive their share of the prizemoney.

NSW’s Sarah Kemp (+4) tied for 123rd and Queensland’s Sarah Jane Smith (+6) tied for 132nd will have to have great final rounds if they are to get close to the top 70.
