• Webb makes her move at RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup
Karrie Webb

Queensland’s Karrie Webb carded an impressive six-under-par 66 to move into the top 15 at the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup being played in Phoenix Arizona.

On a day of low scoring at the Wildlife Golf Club, Japan’s Ai Miyazato fired a flawless round of five-under-par, 67 to regain the lead at 19-under-par and is four clear of American Stacy Lewis (68) and overnight leader South Korean Jee Young Lee (72).

Miyazato will be looking to capture her 10th LPGA victory tomorrow, while Lewis, if she can win will take over the top spot on the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings. Lewis, would have made her task easier if she wasn’t penalised two shots after her round concluded, for her caddy, Travis Wilson, was deemed to have tested the surface of a bunker on the 16th.

A former winner of the event, Webb sits at 11-under-par and shares 13th position after starting the day in 35th position. The seven time major champion got off to a perfect start with a birdie on the 1st, she followed that up with an eagle on the par 5 5th, before finishing the front nine with back-to-back birdies. Webb’s momentum continued when she posted another birdie on the 10th to move to 11-under-par. Her only blemish came on the par 3 14th, where she took bogey. The 38-year-old hit straight back with her fifth birdie of the day.

For the remaining Australians in the field, Victorian Lindsey Wright, who started the day in a tie for fourth, could not reproduce her form of the opening two days. Wright posted an even-par round of 72 to stay at 9-under-par but that saw her fall back down the leaderboard and into a tie for 23rd.

Queensland’s Katherine Hull-Kirk had an up-and-down day posting five birdies and four bogeys in her round of 71. Hull-Kirk sits at 8-under-par and shares 28th position. New South Wales’ Sarah Kemp is the remaining Australian in the field, she also posted a 71, which included five birdies and four bogeys to be at four-under-par total and tied for 53rd.
