• Talented Spaniard creeps closer at Royal Canberra

Spain`s Carlota Ciganda has gone quietly about her business this week, creeping her way to the edge of contention through three rounds at the ISPS Handa Australian Women`s Open at Royal Canberra.

Gigando set tongues wagging late in 2012 when she finished the year not only Rookie of the Year on the Ladies European Tour but also finished the season as the leading money winner.

It was a notable double for the 22 year old from Pamploma who won two events in her debut season in Holland and in China and finished the year with €251,000, €10,000 ahead of the Caroline Masson.

Ciganda did not miss a cut all year in her rookie season and in addition to her two victories put together ten top ten finishes.

With two indifferent performances behind her on the Gold Coast and in New Zealand, Giganda was too good a player to be out of contention for long and her third round of 69 today has moved her to 9 under.

While the leaders appear just too far out of reach she has a chance to complete a very good tournament tomorrow and set sail on yet another fine Ladies European Tour season.
