The +1 handicapper has been a regular at golf tournaments around the country in recent years and the Tasmanian shot 69 in the Oates Victorian Open Pro-Am in February.
A familiar face to all Australians, Ricky’s love of golf and his huge sporting popularity makes him a perfect fit for golf’s national participation campaign.
Ricky Ponting said, “I am so excited to be involved in Playgolf WEEK. I’m an unashamed golf tragic and reckon everyone should experience the enjoyment of playing golf. Nothing beats getting out in the fresh air on a golf course and trying to improve your game. It’s a game that you can share with family and friends, a game that you meet so many new people that become friends and above all, it’s a game that absolutely gets you in. I hope everyone takes the opportunity to get to a Playgolf week venue and have a hit. It’s going to be fantastic.â€
Golf Australia CEO Stephen Pitt, added, “We are thrilled to have Ricky on board for Playgolf WEEK 2014. Like many athletes, golf was that perfect second sport for Ricky when he wasn’t playing cricket. His own game is seriously impressive and we’re pleased to have his support in increasing Australians’ engagement with golf. We want to highlight the ways they can be involved in the game at all levels.â€
Ponting will be seen through an array of media channels speaking about his love of the game and encouraging people to visit their local facility during 2014 Playgolf WEEK.
Playgolf WEEK will be held from 17-23 November and is a week of golf activities, including Come & Try Days, Club Special Offers, and Prizes and Competitions. Nearly 300 facilities Australia-wide are taking part in the event.
