Norway’s Suzann Pettersen battled a number of elements at Ko Olina Golf Club in Thursday’s second round including gusty winds and a little bit of rain to shoot a three-under-par 69 and take a one-shot lead at 10-under-par at the halfway point of the LPGA LOTTE Championship Presented by J Golf.

It was a tough day for the Australian contingent but five out of the six that teed it up will contest the final 36 holes.

Rolex Rankings No. 6 Pettersen made four birdies and one bogey en route to taking the second-round lead, one shot ahead of defending champion Ai Miyazato, who tied for the low round of the day with a 68. Spain’s Beatriz Recari (70) and South Koreans Joo Kim Hyo (71) and Hee Kyung Seo (72) share third at seven-under-par.

“You’re just really trying to play the course, what it gives us,” Pettersen said after her round.

“There are certain holes you can take advantage of, and then others that are more where par is a good score. But I think today even on the holes where I felt like I should have made a birdie and I made a par, I said, Par is not going to hurt me today. So a decent day. It was tough to play solid golf.”

A day after scoring conditions were nearly ideal in Kapolei, Hawaii, the weather turned back to what it typical for the Aloha State. The winds blew steadily at 15-30 km/hr and gusted up to near 40 km/hr.

News South Wales rookie, Julia Boland and Queensland’s Karrie Webb both are at one-under-par and share 37th position with several players. Boland carded a three-over-par 75, while Webb shot a two-over 74. Boland would be rather excited about tomorrow’s draw as she will get the opportunity to play alongside her idol Karrie Webb in the third round. Boland and Webb are paired with American Morgan Pressel.

Queensland’s Katherine Hull had an up and down day with five bogeys and three birdies on her card, she ended up posting a 74 to be at even-par for the tournament and tied for 47th. Fellow Queenslander Sarah-Jane Smith was out in the morning field and moved up the leaderboard with an excellent round of one-under-par 71. She finished at one-over-par and shares 60th position.

Victorian Lindsey Wright was the final Australian to make the cut and she did right on the number. The 33-year-old shot a three-over-par 75 to be at two-over-par. 77 players finished at two-over-par and will tee it up on Friday and Saturday to fight it out for their share of the US$1.7m in prizemoney.

Unfortunately for New South Wales Sarah Kemp she will not be playing tomorrow, she finished at six-over par after a second round of 76.

Other players of interest, first round leader Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn shares seventh position after a 75, while New Zealand’s amateur Lydia Ko posted her second consecutive round of 71 to be at two-under and tied for 28th position.
