Karrie Webb has moved into the top 15 after the completion of the third round of the US Women’s Open being played at the Sebonack Golf Club on Long Island. However, everyone is chasing Rolex World No. 1 Inbee Park who will take a commanding four shot lead into the final round.

The Queenslander had an early start to the day when she had to return to the course to complete her second round, as thick fog had suspended play early on Friday. Webb finished off her round with a birdie on the 18th hole to sign for another one-over-par 73 to at two-over for the championship and tied for 23rd.

Webb started the third round superbly with three birdies in her first four holes. However after that it was a roller-coaster day. She then bogeyed the 7th, birdied the 8th and then bogeyed the next four holes in the tough conditions. Another bogey on the 15th saw her at four-over par, however the seven time major champion clawed one back at the par 5 18th. Webb signed for her third consecutive round of 73.

Webb is at three-over and shares 12th position.

On a day when the average score was well over par, the current World No.1 was the only player to record a red number. Park signed for a one-under-par
71. The USGA moved a number of the tee boxes back and tucked the pins away on the very large and undulating greens. This contributed, along with the wind, to the higher scores.

Park has posted rounds of 67, 68 and 71 to sit atop of the leaderboard at 10-under-par. The South Korean holds a four shot lead over fellow compatriot IK Kim (73), with England’s Jodi Ewart Shadoff (74) a further three shots back. South Korean So Yeon Ryu (73) and American Angela Stanford (74) are the only other players under par at one-under.

Queensland’s Sarah Jane Smith was the only Australian to make the cut. Smith posted a four-over-par 76 to be at seven-over for the tournament and tied for 32nd position. Smith was a good example of how hard it was to score today as she started the third round tied for 32nd and that is where she finished.

Unfortunately for Australian Lindsey Wright she missed the cut by one shot, which was made at six-over. Katherine Hull-Kirk and Stacey Keating missed by several shots.

Defending champion Na Yeon Choi moved up into a tie for 17th after an even par third round to be at four-over.

The race for leading amateur is hotting up, New Zealand’s Lydia Ko and Americans Doris Chen and Casie Cathrea are all tied for 51st at 11-over.
All players will be vying for their share of the US3.25 million.
