Germany’s Caroline Masson sits atop of the leaderboard at seven-under-par after the opening round of the inaugural North Texas LPGA Shootout being played at the Las Colinas Country Club, Irving, Texas.
The rookie player posted a flawless round of seven birdies in her round of 64. She got off to a perfect start with a birdie on her opening hole, the par 5 10th, she then posted another two birdies on the 13th and 18th holes to go out in three-under-par, 32. The 2012 South African Women’s Open champion then flew home with another four birdies, including back-to-back birdies on her last two holes.
Another rookie, Spain’s Carlota Ciganda, who was the number 1 player on the LET in 2012, is two shots behind, while another five players are at four under par including South Korean and current Rolex World No. 1 Inbee Park.
New South Wales’ Sarah Kemp is the leading Australian after the first round, she posted an even par round of 71 to be tied for 32nd position. Queensland’s Sarah Jane Smith, New South Wales Julia Boland and Victorian Lindsey Wright are all at two-over-par and share 70th position. Unfortunately Katherine Hull-Kirk had a disappointing round of 77 and is well back in a tie for 126th.
