Karrie Webb is right where she likes to be heading into a week-end of a major championship, in contention.

The seven time major winner is just four strokes back from American Brittany Lincicome at the halfway point of the final major of the year, the Evian Championship.

Lincicome posted a flawless round of six-under-par 65 to go with her opening round of 67 lead the Championship at 10-under-par. The easy going American is one stroke clear of the first round leader Hyo Joo Kim (72), with another South Korean, MJ Hur (69) a further two back at seven-under-par. Webb shares fourth place at six-under-par with the defending champion, Norway’s Suzann Pettersen (69).

Webb, who opened up with a six-under-par 65, had to settle for an even-par-round of 71 on the Evian Resort and Golf Club layout. Her 71 included four birdies and four bogeys.

After her round the Queenslander commented, “It was just a bit of an up and down day. Didn`t have as good a feel with my swing today. It was a little bit inconsistent. But finished with two birdies on the last three, so sort of makes dinner taste better.”

Webb mentioned that it got colder and windy as the afternoon progressed, which played a part.

Another difference was the pin position, they were a lot tougher, “Like I said yesterday, the pins were about as easy as I have seen them. We went through yesterday and there were four tough pin positions. Today, well, we had played 10 holes and they had probably five of the hardest pin positions you could have on the green. So there was probably seven or eight tough pin positions today. Scores probably reflect how much harder the course played today.”

Western Australian Minjee Lee had a great second round, she posted a 67 to move up into outright 13th position. When asked about what worked well during her round, the talented teenager responded, “Definitely my putting. I think it really helped today. I wasn`t hitting it really that that close, but I think my putting really saved me.”

It has been a good week thus far for the Australians with five of the seven making the cut.

Queensland’s Katherine Kirk fought back well after a shaky start which saw her three over par after seven holes, but four birdies and no bogeys coming home, had her signing for a one-under-par 70. Kirk shares 19th place at one-under-par. Sarah Jane Smith (78) and Sarah Kemp (76) both made it through to Saturday. Smith is at four-over and tied for 52nd, while Kemp is a further shot back and tied for 62nd.

The cut was made at five-over and unfortunately Lindsey Wright and Nikki Campbell both missed finishing at nine-over and 11-over respectively.
