South Korea’s Ilhee Lee tied the tournament record and sits alone at the top of the leaderboard after the opening round of the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia.

Lee signed for a flawless round of seven-under-par 64 at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club. She holds a one shot advantage over American Brittany Lang and sits in solo second.

A group of four players are in a tie for third at five-under par including Rolex World No. 11 Paula Creamer, Spaniard Beatriz Recari, England’s Jodi Ewart Shadoff and South Korea’s Eun-Hee Ji.

Lee, who became a Rolex First-Time Winner earlier this season at the Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic, said she surpassed her number goal she set for herself coming into Thursday’s first round.

“My goal was 3-under-par every day this week, so I feel like I`m okay for the next couple days, I think,” said Lee.

Lee only has one top-10 finish this season in addition to her win in the Bahamas and previous best round of 67 this year came in the final round of the Kingsmill Championship in May.

There are only two Australians in the limited field event this week. Karrie Webb carded two birdies and two bogeys in her even par round of 71. The Rolex World No. 7 is tied for 39th after round one. Unfortunately, Katherine Hull didn’t have a great day, four bogeys and one birdie saw the Queenslanders signed for a three-over 74 and be tied for 58th position.
