Australian Sarah Kemp posted a bogey free round of three-under-par 68 to move into the top 10 at the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco.
The New South Wales player, who started her career on the LET but in recent years has been playing mainly on the LPGA, birdied the par 5 2nd, par 4 10th and par 5 15th. Kemp sits at two-under-par total at the halfway point of the tournament and is just four shots back from Thailand’s teenager Ariya Jutanugarn.
Jutanugarn, who finished runner-up to Australian Karrie Webb at the Volvik RACV Ladies Masters in her first tournament as a professional in February, sits atop of the leaderboard at six-under-par after posting a four-under-par 67 at Golf du I’Ocean golf course in Agadir.
The 17-year-old holds a two shot advantage over a quartet of players; South African Lee-Anne Pace (68), England’s Charley Hull (70) and Americans Beth Allen (68) and Mallory Fraiche (68). England’s Laura Davies (68) and Sweden’s Mikaela Parmlid (66) share sixth position at three-under-par, while Kemp is tied for eighth along with five other players including England’s Melissa Reid (71).
ACT’s Nikki Campbell (70) had another consistent round and shares 14th position at one-under-par, while NSW’s defending champion dropped back to three-over-par after a second round of 73 and is tied for 44th.
Kemp, Campbell and Lunn are the only Australians who will play the week-end. The cut was made at four-over-par and unfortunately NSW Rebecca Artis and New Zealand’s Cathryn Bristow have missed by one.
Queensland’s Bree Arthur (+6), South Australian Stephanie Na (+7) and Western Australian Whitney Hillier (+12) will also have Saturday and Sunday off. Victorian Alison Whitaker retired from the tournament.
