• Garrett five back in Czech Republic

Nikki Garrett
Nikki Garrett has given herself an outside chance of winning heading into the final round of the Sberbank Golf Masters in the Czech Republic.

Garrett carded a second round of two-under-par 69 to go with her opening round of 66 to be at seven-under-par and five back.

The NSW golfer started her second round on the 10th and played fantastic golf on her opening nine holes which included four birdies and no bogeys. She made the turn at 9-under-par and just one back of the clubhouse leader at the time. However, Garrett couldn’t keep the momentum going on the front nine, her back nine. She bogeyed the 4th hole, before a double bogey on the par 3 7th and another bogey on the 8th. The two time winner regained her composure to eagle her last hole, the par 5 9th to finish the day on a high.

Garrett will be chasing France’s Julie Greciet who shot a second round of seven-under-par 64 in blazing sunshine to take a one stroke lead over Finland’s Ursula Wikstrom. Wikstrom held outright second place after a round of 65, while Scotland’s Pamela Pretswell (67) and South African Lee-Anne Pace (65) shared third on nine-under-par. Amy Boulden from Wales and France’s Sophie Giquel-Bettan are a further shot back and share fifth position.

It will be a fascinating final round with a number of the players trying to break through for their first victory on the LET, while they are in unfamiliar territory, Pace will be looking for her ninth LET title, the SOuth African has been in great form, she was in contention in last week on the LPGA.

Of the other Australians, Whitney Hillier (69) and Nikki Campbell (70) are also playing well, the pair are tied for 12th position at four-under-par and will be looking for a strong finish top and hopefully a top 10 finish. New Zealand’s Cathryn Bristow is tied for 41st position at one-under after a second round of 70. Maggie Yuan was the only other Australian to make the cut. She is at even par and tied for 52nd.

The cut was made at even par and 65 players will contest the final round. Unfortunately Bree Arthur (+2), Alison Whitaker (+11) and Adriana Brent (+17) all miss the cut.
