The Australian team of Minjee Lee (WA), Grace Lennon (VIC) and Su Hyun Oh (VIC) have won the Queen Sirikit Cup by one stroke at Sunrise Golf and Country Club in Yangmei City, Taiwan.

Coached by former LPGA Tour player Shani Waugh, the Australians finished with a final score of 5-over par and made pressure birdies on the closing holes to win by one stroke from Japan in second place. The victory is Australia`s first at the tournament since 2001.

Lee and Oh finished with 2-over par 74s while Lennon finished with a 77.

Team Manager and Captain Matt Cutler said a combined effort was the key to success.

“Grace, Minjee and Su all played their part in this victory. Today was a very testing day, beginning with a fog delay of 3 ½ hours and the team had to remain calm and make sure they were prepared to tee off at short notice. The wind was a major factor all day and our team controlled their play, keeping trouble to a minimum,\" Cutler said.

\"With 2 holes to play Japan were in the lead but we made clutch birdies when it counted to seal a fantastic win. The team are thrilled to be part of the first Queen Sirikit Cup win in over a decade.”

Thailand finished in third place with the Philippines in fourth place and Korea in fifth.

On the individual leaderboard, Thailand`s Supamas Sangchan claimed the honours, finishing at 2-under par. Su Hyun Oh finished second at 1-over par.

Sangchan receives an invitation to the Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship in October on the LPGA Tour.

The championship is hosted annually on a rotation basis among 14 invited member countries with the objectives of promoting the standard of women’s golf in the region and to promote goodwill and friendship among participating teams.
