• ALPG Tour Ready to Tee Off in Yamba
Rebecca Artis

The 2014 Club Car Series tees off tomorrow in the inaugural BWAC Regional Employment and Community Services ALPG Pro-am at the beautiful Yamba Golf Club.

The players are certainly looking forward to the new event on the picturesque layout and will be vying for their share of the $25,000 on offer.

A high calibre field of 41 ALPG and international players are competing. The majority of the players are Australians, however we also have players from Belgium, USA, Canada and France in the field, which is wonderful for the event and our tour.

A familiar name teeing it up is former LPGA and LET touring pro, Western Australian Shani Waugh. The three time winner of international tournaments is making a rare appearance on the ALPG Tour after retiring in 2007.

Waugh is joined in field by first time winner on the LET this year, Rebecca Artis and LPGA based players Sarah Kemp and Sarah Jane Smith.

Artis will go in as one the favourites after having a fantastic 2013 LET. The Coonabarabran golfer broke through for her maiden victory when she came from behind to win The Helsingborg Open in Sweden in September. She posted another three top 10 finishes and finished as the leading Australian on the Order of Merit (16th) with Euro 87,960.

International players looking to get their 2014 off to a perfect start include France’s Joanna Klatten. Klatten is coming off her best season as a pro, having finished 13th on the Order of Merit on the LET with just over Euro 92,000. She posted three top 10 finishes in 2013. Klatten is also a former winner of the Victorian Women’s Open and loves coming to Australia.

All eligible players will be looking to get off to a flying start in the Club Car Series. The player with the greatest number of points at the conclusion of the Oates Victorian Open will take home a cheque for $6,500.

Along with the Club Car Series competition, the official ball of the ALPG, Volvik has a number of incentives for the leading rookie, leading ALPG domestic player and major tour player in the Series.
